The Leica Disto D8’s digital Point finder with 4x zoom allows you to point quickly and easily at far off objects, in glaring sunlight too. Even when the laser dot is no longer visible to the naked eye, the target can be clearly seen on the 2.4“ high resolution color display, allowing accurate distance measurements to be made, even over great distances.

You can also use the Leica Disto D8 to calculate Altitude Profiles. All you need to do is measure a known reference mark with the device and then measure from each of the relevant altitude differences. When the measuring points have all been recorded in one direction you can then determine a cross-country profile with the measured horizontal distance and the height difference.

The Leica Disto D8 also has a stake out function. By entering two different distances (A and B) into the Leica Disto D8, they can be used to mark off defined measured lengths. At each measured length, the display shows the current marking distance and a direction arrow. Additionally, an alarm signal starts to ring at a distance of 4 inch from the next stake out point

PLANIX EX Digitizing Coordinate Planimeter

Planimeters are excellent tools to use when you measure irregular shaped areas on plans or drawings. They eliminate the need for grids, charts, or calculations done by hand. Planimeters are used by many in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Cartography, Architecture, Medicine, Clothing Industry, Boat and Ship Design, Office, Store and Plant Planning, and Biology.

Most people I know use the older model Planimeters, known as Mechanical Planimeters. These Mechanical Planimeters work well, work accurately and are usually efficient enough for the job. The only problem is that they are a little bulky and they aren’t so easy to use.
