The difference between Pipe and Cable Locators and Magnetic Locators

Most people think that the Pipe and Cable Locator is the same thing as a Magnetic Locator. They are wrong. There is a big difference and you have to be careful that you buy the one that suits your needs best! Each of these locating systems detects different objects underground.

The Pipe and Cable Locators detect power signals and charges. It can locate power signals radiated by energized cables or it can trace signals originating from distant radio transmitters. These radio signals penetrate the ground and are reradiated by buried metallic cables and pipes. Basically it can detect anything that has a signal or charge such as electrical power cables, cable lines, telephone lines, power lines, water lines, tracer lines and anything that had a metallic conductor.

Health and Safety authorities all over the world advise that before undertaking any kind of excavation operators should firstly scan an area with a Cable Avoidance Tool. Even with this advice, site workers are still injured and killed due to inadvertently striking buried cables. Leica makes a fantastic Pipe and Cable Locator that can avoid these injuries called the Leica DIGICAT 100 Buried Service Locator. With the DIGISYSTEM operators can locate, trace and mark underground services quickly, precisely and reliably prior to excavation.

The Leica DIGICAT 100 Buried Service Locator uses the latest in location technology. By introducing an automatic pinpointing facility to accurately locate the cable, always starting up in power mode and at maximum sensitivity the DIGI SYSTEM takes away the need for awkward manual tuning, keeps you safer and locates faster. The DIGICAT 100 unit is designed to help avoid damage to underground services during excavation and is an easy to operate, fully automatic location system with the ability to manually tune if preferred. The Leica DIGI System has an audio and visual display of signal reception; it is waterproof, and designed for tough working conditions.

Now if you are looking for any object that is ferric, iron, lead or steel, you will need a Magnetic Locator. It will detect these objects underground, underwater, or in snow. If you are looking for PK Nails, Iron Pipes, Valve Covers, Masonry Nails, Manhole Covers, Cast Iron Water and Gas Lines, Surveyors Markers, Iron Tanks and any other item that will stick to a magnet you will need a Magnetic Locator.

CST/Berger makes great Magnetic Locators. They have the Magna-Trak MT200 Series Magnetic Locator and the Magna-Trak 100 Series Magnetic Locator. Both these series take technology one step into the future by including a multitude of convenience features you won't find anywhere else, like an LCD visual display and audio tone, a lightweight, easy-grip design, and water resistant cases. Magna-Trak locators also feature easy battery access and outstanding battery life, and they're backed by a 5-7 year warranty! Plus, a patented electronic balancing procedure allows balancing to be done quickly and efficiently.

The Magna-Trak magnetic Locators are also ergonomically designed for complete one-handed operation; so your other hand is free to use other equipment. It also lets you block out interference from a magnetic disturbance (such as a nearby fence).

Before you purchase a Magnetic Locator or a Pipe and Cable Locator remember the difference. A Magnetic Locator is used to detect iron, lead and steel, while a Pipe and Cable Locator is used to detect anything with a charge or signal.

Calculated Industries NEW Prexiso X2 (Model 3350) Laser Distance Meter

I was painting over my daughter’s room yesterday and three quarters of the way through I ran out of paint. “Great,” I thought, “Now I have to run to the store buy another can of paint, make sure it’s the exact color, and take care not to paint it darker than the first three quarters of the room. What a pain!”

It turns out that if I would have used the Prexiso X2 Laser Distance Meter, this never would have happened. The Prexiso X2 can measure walls and ceilings of a room to estimate the paint required. It also has a lot of other functions that would be very valuable to real estate agents, brokers, appraisers, contractors, builders, carpenters, plumbers, interior designers, painters and anyone else who would need accurate measurements.

The Prexiso X2 is a one-person laser measuring tool that can calculate distances, areas and volume. You can measure between sprinkler heads for irrigation, inaccessible areas, and horizontal roof lengths for installing rain gutters. You can also determine where to place electrical receptacles and distances for placement of safety equipment or fence posts. The Prexiso X2 can be used for building and renovating, wallpapering and painting, laying tile and carpeting, and more!

The Prexiso also has the Pythagoras function built in so that you may calculate height,
measure two sides of a triangle and even calculate a third! The Prexiso X2 gives you laser accuracy for quick, precise measurements which will save you time and money.

I decided that the next time I paint over a room in my house; I am definitely going to use this device! No more second trips to the store to purchase what I need because the Prexiso X2 will help me determine what supplies I require the first time around!

Ulrich Large Document Product Line

I have a set of flat files in my office for all of my architectural drawings, artwork, and any oversized document that I need. Recently I noticed that the ends of my precious papers started curling and that the folders weren’t enough to keep all my documents organized. I also realized that the flat files take up majority of my floor space, squishing me into a little corner of the room. I got so fed up that I started researching other ways to store my large documents.

I came across a product line called Urlich and was very interested in what they had to offer. They have a huge selection of choices for large document storage. For example they have Planfiles, Minifiles Drawer Files, Pinfiles, Cadfiles and much more!

What is so exceptional about the Urlich product line is that they are vertical files verses the typical horizontal flat files. They can hold more documents in less space than any other filing system, saving you valuable floor space. The unique spring compression system and heavy duty reinforced folders maintains the documents perfectly smooth and flat. It can also be customized to provide filing for different sized documents in one cabinet.

The Urlich’s Files easy operation makes retrieval/filing of a large document effortless. In Flat Files the inherent difficulty in retrieving/filing a single large document which is buried under other documents inevitably leads to documents that are wrinkled, crumpled and sometimes even ripped. The Urlich product line are all waist height so there is no need to get on your hands and knees to reach a drawer at floor level or to stand on a stool for the drawers close to the ceiling.

The Urlich Files have a lid that is controlled by two gas cylinders which prevents accidental slamming and provides smooth opening and closing. It also has a standard lock and double steel walls for extra protection. Most of the Urlich product line are fire resistant, water resistant, movable and can fit through any door way!

It seems to me that the Urlich product line is the best way to store my valuable documents and papers. It has the best protection and security, keeps everything organized and neat and hardly takes up any room!

Leica Roteo 35 The all-in-one Rotating laser

Ever buy a laser that you desperately need and you put your whole project on hold until you receive it? Then when you actually do receive it, it doesn’t do exactly what you need it to do?! It doesn’t rotate the way you want it to or you can’t see it in the glaring sunlight or it’s just not accurate enough? Then you have to go either back online or to a store, buy a new laser and cross your fingers that it will work!

That is why Leica came out with a brand new laser that includes everything you would need for interior and exterior work! On ceilings or walls, on floors or using a tripod, the Leica Roteo 35 rotating laser is a multi-talented performer. You can use it for many tasks where leveling or aligning is required.

The Leica Roteo 35 comes with a remote-controlled wall bracket which can save you a huge amount of work. There is no need to have a second person align the laser – the height of the wall bracket can be quickly adjusted via remote control from the application site. The Leica Roteo 35 is also self-leveling and is always precisely aligned in the horizontal or vertical plane. If the instrument changes position during operation, an alarm will sound, thus preventing errors arising from incorrect alignment.

If you are taking it onto a construction sight there is no need to worry about unexpected knocks or bumps to the Leica Roteo 35. It has a strong aluminum cage that fully protects the sensitive laser head! The cage can be removed so that you may adjust the laser head by hand if necessary. It also is in the protection class of IP54, which means that the Roteo 35 is dust and splash proof!

The Leica Roteo 35 also comes with a receiver so that even in the glaring sunlight you may get an accurate read off of it! The range is up to 300 meters and it has a 50 hour battery use of continuous operation! This way, you will not have to keep running to charge it everyday!

Believe me when I say, that the Leica Roteo 35 is exceptional in every aspect! It works indoors, outdoors, in glaring sunlight, it rotates, the actual laser can be adjusted to slope and it is self leveling! In addition it comes with a remote, a receiver, a wall mount and much, much more! It’s every surveyors and architects dream!

The World’s longest laser range Theodolite

Buying a Theodolite is a big investment and no simple task. To most people it is the most confusing job because they all seem to be boasting the exact same functions and abilities, with just a variation of prices! Most customers are rushed into purchasing a Theodolite that they have little or no idea how to work it, or what it does.

I have gotten quite a number of phone calls from customers who purchased a Theodolite elsewhere, asking if I can email them an instruction manual or if I know how to turn it on! The first time I received a call like that, I couldn’t believe my ears! A customer who invests any money into one of my products can be assured that they will definitely know everything I know about the product, how to use it and benefit from it!

You have to understand, Theodolites are a bit more complicated then your average surveyor’s machine. It will take a little bit longer to know everything there is to know about it, but I promise you will. Take for instance the Sokkia LDT520 5” Laser Digital Theodolite. This instrument has many functions but even though it is pretty simple to work and learn about, it is still a bit more complex then most devices.

To sum it up, Sokkia LDT520 5” Laser Digital Theodolite is equipped with a telescope with laser beam capability, boasts the world’s longest laser range, class-topping dust and water protection, and has a continuous use for 12.5 hours. The LDT520 is designed for directional controls in tunnel excavation, precise marking and alignment in construction and engineering applications.

Sounds a little convoluted, right? Actually, the Sokkia LDT520 5” Laser Digital Theodolite is one of the most user friendly Theodolites! I can explain how to use it easily and quickly! Any questions you have will be answered immediately! You have my word that you will not be making calls to other companies for anything to do with it!

The NEW Leica Disto D5 worth a close look.

I was talking to a friend the other day, who works in the roofing business. He was complaining to me about his old age. “It’s not easy to climb up onto the roof anymore,” he grumbled, “Every time I lean that ladder against the wall and look up, the roof seems to have gotten further away. If only I could save myself a trip up and down.”

If he had complained about this a couple of months ago I would have just given him a sympathetic pat on the back and continued the conversation. But, now I had a solution for him!

Leica had announced that they were coming out with a new Laser Distance Measuring Device, the Disto D5. I was curious as to what new functions the Disto D5 would have so I researched it and what I found astounded me!

The Disto D5 has a new function that no other Laser Distance Measuring Device has! It is called the Trapezium function. It can measure roof slopes and facade areas quickly with just the push of a button! Which means that you can stand on the ground, with the Disto D5 in your hand, shoot it to the roof in a couple of places, and it will come up with an area for you!

I excitedly informed my friend of this new device, and I assured him that it would save him many trips up and down his ladder! He was ecstatic!

“That’s not all!” I explained enthusiastically, “The Disto D5 is a very user friendly tool. It has complex equations that it breaks down for the user into simple answers and measurements. The Disto D5 integrated digital point finder with a 4x zoom and a color display. It makes finding the target at long distances much easier.”

“The Disto D5 also has a built in tilt sensor,” I continued breathlessly. “You can quickly and simply measure slopes up to ± 45°. The tilt sensor also allows you to measure absolutely horizontally or measure past obstructions (horizontal distance). You can also measure up to 100 m without a target plate and up to 200 m using a target plate, without having to take a single step!”

My friend looked at me in amazement. “This device has everything I need!” he said, “I want one and I’m going to buy one!”
